平妖傳

"平妖傳" by Guanzhong Luo and Menglong Feng is a Chinese novel attributed to the 14th century, with the earliest surviving version compiled between 1571 and 1589, and expanded by Feng Menglong in 1620. Blending comedy with the supernatural, the story follows Wang Ze, a military commander who leads a rebellion aided by powerful sorcerers including his sorceress wife. When three disillusioned sorcerers defect to the government side, they help imperial forces suppress the revolt in this fantastical retelling of a historical Song Dynasty uprising.
