Ville Ikämies, the training officer, struggles to impose discipline as the men bungle simple formations, confuse left and right, and fidget over details like trouser seams. Ordered to the ground, Mallinen can’t get up without help, and the drill dissolves into banter and excuses. When coffee is mentioned, the “exhausted” trainees spring up at once, revealing their malingering; they cap their bluff with a boastful song about Himppula’s unbeatable “war tricks,” sealing the play’s gentle mockery of patriotic posturing and village vanity.
