"La araña negra, t. 5/9" by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez is a novel written in 1892. This serialized work tells the story of the Baselga family, a noble lineage from Old Castile tracing back to Reconquista heroes. Set in early nineteenth-century Spain, the novel follows how the Jesuits patiently weave a web to seize the family's fortune. The work contains harsh criticism of the Society of Jesus, leading some to dismiss it as mere pulp fiction. Blasco Ibáñez later repudiated this youthful work.
