"Ludwig Bechsteins Märchenbuch" by Ludwig Bechstein is a fairy tale collection published between 1845 and 1857. Drawing from old texts and oral traditions, Bechstein compiled tales that included his own retellings of stories from the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, and other sources. The collection features beloved tales like Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, and Bluebeard. Until around 1900, Bechstein's versions were more popular than Grimm's fairy tales, partly due to early illustrations by Ludwig Richter.
