State of the Union Addresses
"State of the Union Addresses by Franklin Pierce" is a collection of presidential addresses delivered between 1853 and 1857. Pierce's first address in December 1853 emphasized national prosperity, diplomatic challenges, and limited federal government. He addressed tensions with Great Britain over fishing rights, Austrian conflicts regarding Martin Koszta's protection, and British influence in Central America. Domestically, Pierce advocated for constitutional restraint while supporting westward expansion and a transcontinental railroad. The address also commemorated Vice President William R. King, who died shortly after taking office.
