Timon of Athens
"Timon of Athens" by William Shakespeare is a play written around 1606. It follows a generous Athenian nobleman who lavishly shares his wealth with friends and flatterers until his fortune runs dry. When Timon falls into debt and seeks help, those he once aided turn him away. Betrayed and embittered, he abandons Athens for the wilderness, transforming from philanthropist to misanthrope. In his cave, he discovers gold but uses it only to fuel his hatred for humanity and fund revenge against the city that failed him.
