"Aksel ja Valpuri: Murhenäytelmä viidessä näytöksessä" by Adam Oehlenschläger is a tragedy written in 1808. Based on a famous Scandinavian ballad, the play tells the story of two cousins, Axel and Valborg, who love each other deeply. Despite obtaining papal permission to marry, their union is sabotaged by a scheming monk. The entire drama unfolds within the walls of Trondhjem Cathedral during the reign of King Haakon Herdebred. This romantic-sentimental work became Oehlenschläger's most beloved piece in his generation.
