by Willem Ysbrantsz. Bontekoe

"Journael ofte gedenckwaerdige beschrijvinghe van de Oost-Indische Reyse" by Willem IJsbrantsz. Bontekoe is a ship's journal published in 1646. It chronicles Bontekoe's harrowing 1618 voyage to the East Indies for the Dutch East India Company. When his ship explodes near Sumatra, only seventy-two of over two hundred crew members survive. They endure starvation, thirst, and attacks while desperately seeking rescue. The account details further adventures across the Asian seas before Bontekoe's return in 1625.
