by Unknown
"Cincuenta y cuatro Canciones Españolas del siglo XVI: Cancionero de Uppsala" is a collection of Spanish villancicos published in 1556. The only known copy was discovered in 1907 in a Swedish university library. This Renaissance songbook contains 54 villancicos for multiple voices, plus pedagogical pieces in plainchant and organ style. Most works are anonymous, though some composers have been identified through comparison with other sources. The songs explore themes of love, Christmas, pastoral life, and popular culture, predominantly in Castilian with occasional Catalan and Galician verses.
